Meet the Team


Gary Hallett

Gary has found success in corporate and small business alike. His experience has ranged from owning, operating and eventually selling his own small business to executive leadership in large corporations. A decade of Sales & Marketing management with a global franchisor across multiple North American markets was followed by nearly 10 years as a franchisee within that same system. During that time, he sat on National advisory boards for some of the industry’s largest and fastest growing companies.

A degree in Accounting, combined with operational field experience and executive leadership in the boardroom, have positioned him well to serve the needs of our clients. Financial statements review, business valuation, corporate strategy and business development services are all available as part of our client engagements, both buying and selling a business.

He obtained his Certified Business Intermediary (CBI) designation from the International Business Brokers Association (IBBA) in 2013 after becoming a Business Broker in 2009. He is an avid runner, having completed 12 marathons, and is currently contemplating a lucky #13.


Nancy Hallett

Nancy Hallett has been a small business owner, founded a small private investment group and worked closely with the principals of a large family owned private business. She has worked on M&A transactions with a Fortune 100 company, helping to lead that company through integration efforts in Finance and Operations. Nancy’s education background is in Accounting and her business career has been in Accounting, Administration and Operations. She is a fact based problem solver who understands quickly when something is amiss.

Nancy manages customer relations, business valuations, marketing to buyers and keeps everyone at Gateway on task.  Her passion for business is rivaled only by her love of the outdoors.  An avid surfer and runner, she brings energy, focus and clarity to the team and her projects.


Cal Heseman

Cal Heseman graduated with honors from the University of Missouri at Rolla, with a B.S. in Civil Engineering. He later obtained an MBA from the University of Illinois. He has over 20 years experience in the electric power and natural gas industries in various sales and management positions. Cal spent time in China working with government and gas company officials regarding the replacement of gas pipelines in China. For five years he was the Director of Real Estate for Illinois Power Company, managing all real estate transactions, over 500 properties and the sale of the Clinton Nuclear Power Station property.

In 2000 Cal formed Heseman & Associates, a firm that assisted businesses seeking venture capital. In 2005 he moved to Jacksonville as a full-time business broker. He is experienced in the valuation, marketing and successful sale of many types of business including franchises and professional practices. Cal has acted as business advisory and/or intermediary on over $100,000,000 of M&A transactions.

Cal’s business brokerage experience includes medical & dental practices, retail stores, durable medical equipment sales, manufacturing, distribution, call centers, bars, restaurants, large contractors, print shops, MRI clinics, auto and truck repair, hair salons, day’s spas, lawn care, gas station and convenience stores, commercial property and many others.

Cal is a member of the Business Brokers of Florida, the Small Business Resource Network, Jacksonville Chamber, Healthcare Business Connect, BNI and many other professional organizations.


Fred Bower

Fred Bower is a leading expert in business sales, banking and real estate. A licensed Real Estate Broker, he spent several years with one of Florida’s top real estate firms in residential, commercial and business sales before leaving to start his own business brokerage company. In addition to real estate, Fred has a rich background in banking, serving as Vice President with two local banks and lending over $50,000,000 to small business owners throughout NE Florida, participating in the annual audit of commercial loans and business plans. He also served small business owners in North Florida as the Senior Commercial Loan officer at the Small Business Administration (SBA) for fifteen years.

Fred is a graduate of Marshall University with post grad work at Ohio State, Bowling Green State and Franklin University(s). He is a native of West Virginia and long time resident of Jacksonville Beach. A past President of the Beaches Business Association (BBA), Fred leads our team on the golf course and is available to all business buyers and sellers looking for a few hours to relax and discuss their needs.

Bill has had two careers which has given him the perfect background to serve our clients.

His first career as a Division Controller and CFO of small and large public companies gave him analytical and executive insights to follow industry lines: Heavy machinery production, Health & Beauty Aids, Pharmaceutical Chemicals, Industrial Chemicals, Polymer-based composite materials, Business Form production, National warehouse distribution and Manufactured Housing. In addition to his financial duties, Bill was involved with purchase and sale negotiations, responsible for corporate due diligence for acquisition candidates, the integration of new business into the existing business and act as General Manager for business units being sold to provide and orderly transition.

Bill’s second career fulfilled his own dream of owning his own business. He acquired a small packing and shipping company which was making little profit, had an ineffective business model, was in the wrong section of town and wasn’t focused on the customer. He redefined the business model and focused on the customer needs in the Boston market place. Boston Pack and Ship developed a reputation for service second to none. He merged with another business in 1999 and the business grew substantially in revenues. In 2011 the business was sold in year 2 of a 5 year exit strategy due to a five-buyer bidding session.

He earned a BBA and MBA from Western Michigan University.

Scott Messinger is a business acquisition and sales broker, representing both buyers and sellers.  He is a successful business owner in his own right, having purchasing multiple businesses and being an owner for 20+ years.  Scott has found success selling manufacturing/distribution operations with multiple locations. As a Business Broker, utilizing his own experience as an owner provides a clear perspective in the buying and selling process.  He earned a BS in Business from Eastern Illinois University with a Major Energy Management.  He is an eight year Member of the Business Brokers of Florida.
